Ballad of a Day Spa
Prompted by a colleague’s referral, the owner of a well-established boutique day spa reached out to us in late Q3 of 2025, not really sure what she needed. All she knew was sales were slipping and she couldn’t tell if her marketing was working.
We started off with a couple of truly enlightening conversations — where it’s my role to ask questions and listen for what’s not being said as much as what is. It became clear to me that the first thing she needed was clarity, a better sense of what was going on digitally.
Initial Steps
This is a business that by all outward appearances was doing everything right: annual sales over $1 million, good local reputation, solid web presence, PPC campaigns on major platforms. Could we even help?
But our initial assessment revealed some issues:
- a website with fractured customer flow to booking
- an incoherent ad/marketing strategy (platforms handled by different teams with no coordination, underperforming campaigns that weren’t converting to sales)
- stale messaging that didn’t stand out in a competitive market
- no clarity on how (or if) digital efforts were making a difference
We began with a simple offer crafted to address the most immediate issues — clarity and conversion.
- A deeper audit of her digital assets (website, socials, ad campaigns, booking system, tracking implementation) to assess areas for improvement and prescribe no-obligation solutions — a diagnosis and prescription she could take to anyone and have them implement.
- A light, strategic refresh of her website. Not a redesign, just some strategic tweaks to organization, formatting, and structure to improve the customer experience. Most importantly, an overhaul of her on-site CTAs (calls to action, ie links to her booking system) and how conversions are tracked in Google Analytics. This was 100% informed by what we found in our audit.
Clarity Leads to Trust
When we presented our clarity document (the audit), it was an eye-opener for her. She expressed gratitude for how clearly we outlined our findings without the use of overwhelming jargon or obtuse strategies. After all, clarity starts with transparency.
Expanded Strategy and Impact
Our CTA and other website improvements began bearing fruit within a week of implementation, and within 3 weeks we noticed a 30% increase in conversions to her booking site which helped her business achieve its first positive month year-over-year in 18 months. Removing an overlooked source of friction was rewarded through customer behavior.
Having earned the client’s confidence, we were then hired to replace her previous Meta and Google ad teams and to devise a comprehensive digital marketing strategy to strengthen her position and generate demand in the thick of the busy holiday season. Talk about a trial by fire!
Dutifully, we leapt into action — analyzing, strategizing, designing creative assets, and launching multi-tiered campaigns.
While our approach took time to find its footing during this intense consumer crucible, we closely measured data from campaign tracking, signals from Google Analytics, our client’s competitors, and actual conversion data at the point of sale. Our signature high-touch approach allowed us to identify what worked and what didn’t with granularity, and adjust with intention instead of reacting to noise.
By year’s end we had planted vital seeds of demand, watered by increased awareness and more resonant branding. Q1 2026 demonstrated measurable momentum, indicating newfound stability and the green shoots of growth.
By Q2, we were seeing consistent monthly year-over-year increases in gross sales and order volume. We had successfully helped our client move from flagging sales to a position of strength.
Our Approach
We achieved these results through a combination of data-driven strategy and thoughtful creative distinction.
At every step, we measured ad performance on each channel from impression to conversion. We stayed on top of budgets, in-store and online sales, and planned ahead of anticipated demand to get in front of the right customers at the right time.
Standing Out in a Crowded Room
For experiential service businesses, or any brand that lives in the hearts of its customers, aesthetics aren’t simply decor — they’re the differentiator.
The feel of a brand’s advertising can color every aspect of how customers think about and interact with it. It makes that service seem even more meaningful if you feel personally connected to the brand providing it, if you feel they speak your language. It breeds brand loyalty through identification, becoming a source of pride.
In the beauty & wellness space, there is a prevalent aesthetic we like to call “spa beige”. It’s ubiquitous, and if you ask us, ready for retirement.
So, we decided to lead — carving a unique space for the spa in a crowded market through tasteful creative that broke away from beige. Our design and messaging worked on a few different levels:
- Aesthetics: Simple, arresting imagery which stopped the scroll and stood in contrast to her competitors’ ads. We grabbed attention through sheer presence.
- Voice: Minimal, emotionally resonant headlines that spoke to the moment — to the customer’s own inner voice — rather than pitching services. We reserved the words “massage” and “facial” for body copy, and let the headline be a velvet invitation.
- Positioning: We connected the brand to a refined, elevated experience that still felt grounded in humanity.
And one of the best tells that this resonated? Noticing our competitors trying to cop our vibe. We take that as a compliment.
From Cacophony to Harmony
As our work with this client continues, we look ahead from stabilization to further growth — implementing new ideas to capitalize on current momentum and create a lasting foundation for success.
We bring this high-touch level of service to everything we do, and firmly believe it is what sets us apart as a unique strategic marketing partner. We own our client’s goals and challenges, so we treat them as our own.
